Niddrie Branch of the CWA supports Project Twiddles in 2025

What a wonderful few weeks I have had. Maia, a long term Project Twiddles maker, and I met up with the Sue O’Loughlin and the Niddrie branch of the CWA in Melbourne which has Project Twiddles as their project this year.

We spent a wonderful afternoon talking about Project Twiddles, looking at their amazing donation of 90 twiddle creations.

A suitcase was donated to take these fabulous creations, plus our gifts of jam and pickles, back to the Royal Melbourne Hospital. We were kindly given a car ride to the hospital’s door by Carolyn.

Ever since Project Twiddles began, this has been a goal, to obtain support from a group of wonderful makers. Our small team of makers is struggling now to keep up with the demand in the Royal Melbourne Hospital and its external campuses. We are constantly seeking help from new makers and groups to support the medical staff and patients at the hospital. So imagine how excited I was when Niddrie CWA group responded so positively. It has been a very rewarding experience to work with these caring and committed people. As a New Zealander I have been privileged to learn about the origins of the CWA movement in Australia since 1922. Thank you Niddrie CWA branch, its leadership, and in particular very sincere thanks to the very dedicated Sue and her team of makers for the much needed donations and the wonderful afternoon we had.  It was truly heart-warming and rewarding.

Recently I received an update from Sue. She commented that she was struggling to keep up with making the embellishments or twiddle items.  Sue is not the only one!  And that got me thinking….

I rummaged through my stash and managed to package these twiddle items into four categories: hearts, flowers, twirls, pockets and bits and pieces.

Hopefully these will help Sue’s group.  Most of these items can be made and attached under 1 hour.  Some of the ideas can be found on the website.  https://www.projecttwiddles.com/making-simple-twiddle-items/

If you would like to help Niddrie’s CWA branch I know Sue and her team of makers will be very appreciative of the support.

We are always seeking more makers. If you would like to join our superb and dedicated team of makers making twiddle muffs, cuffs and mats for our patients at the Royal Melbourne Hospital, please email me at projecttwiddles@gmail.com

If you have some great ideas for twiddle items please share them on our Facebook page at Project Twiddles Crafters Group.

Let me know if you have any questions or ideas.

Happy creating everyone!
