I’m always looking for ways to reduce attaching items to a twiddle mat, muff and cuff. On a recent walk I wondered if I could crochet a flower and embed a ribbon for the patient to tie a bow.
Here’s what I did:
- I cut a piece of ribbon 51cm (20 inches). You can decide what length you want.
- I used my 3.5 hook and double knit yarn.
- I chained 4 stitches, then made a circle by working a slip stitch into the first chain.
- Row 1: Chain 1. I placed the ribbon next to the stitches leaving a tail approximately 25cm (10 inches) long to the right of the hook. Holding onto the ribbon make 12 SC into the ring. The ribbon should be enclosed and secure when you try pulling it. Make a slip stitch into the top of the starting chain to complete the circle.
At this point you could attach a new colour or wait until the start of row 3.
- Row 2: Chain 1, 1 SC in same place as starting chain, continue increasing by working 2 SC into each stitch, then join the round with a slip stitch into the top of the chain at the beginning of the row.
- Row 3: Chain 5, slip stitch into each SC, chain 5, repeat the pattern right to the end, slip stitch into last stitch and tie off.
Pull the ribbon through the centre hole and there you have a flower completed with its ribbon ready to tie into a bow.
Firmly attach the flower to your twiddle muff, cuff and mat by sewing the thread between rows 1 and 2.
