Button Flaps

I’m always looking for new ideas for twiddle items.  I’m not good at making the same twiddle item over and over to place on my twiddle creations.  I like a change, look for new inspirations but will recycle old ideas eventually.

So I have been making button flaps.  Very easy to make and attach, and easy for recipients to use.  I have provided a pattern guide for crochet.  I am sure knitters could adapt the idea and create their own.

I have used double knit yarn with a 3.5 mm crochet hook. The flap could be made using any yarn and the hook that best suits you.

You now have 2 stitches. To make the flap you will increase at each end.

Row 2: In first stitch and next stitch put 2 sc in each stitch, chain 1 and turn. You now have 4 stitches.

Place 1 chain at the end of rows 4 & 5.
In this example I have gone right round the edge using slip stitch, chain 2 in same stitch, then slip stitch into next stitch, chain 2, repeat.

Flap completed and ready to be attached to your twiddle matt, muff, cuff or blanket.

Have fun with size, type of yarn and how you attach it to your twiddle creation. You could even use bobbles instead of buttons.

Happy creating!
